The best in all areas of local government in the UK were recognised with a coveted LGC Award at this year’s gala dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, on March 25, 2009.
The LGC Awards aim to reward the very best in local government and recognise the excellent service they deliver to the communities they serve. The awards bring together over 1,300 industry leaders to celebrate the most innovative and passionate councils in the UK. Click here to see the well deserving winners.
The Awards proved to be a fantastic night with John Healey, Minister of State for Local Government, encouraging the crowd to recognise what they had achieved last year in the tough climate and to take the innovation forward in to 2010. Comedian Dara O’Briain hosted the evening and presented the awards. To much laughter, he regaled the crowd with stories of how his council was working to make rubbish collecting and recycling even more complicated but how they were managing to do it on the same funding as last year; an effort to be commended! As well as commenting on the seriousness of the awards and what they mean to the communities serviced by these innovative councils.
David Blackman, acting editor of LGC magazine commented: “The awards are here to pay tribute to the individuals, teams and departments that are working tirelessly within local government to make their communities happier and healthier places to live. Local Government Chronicle is delighted to be able to show our support of these teams and individuals who through their drive, ambition and vision are making it their priority to increase efficiency and accountability throughout their councils."
We wish you all another successful year and look forward to hearing what you have been up to when we open for the 2010 LGC Awards
